Is the Syrian Ministry of Information’s Official Account Still Controlled by the Former Regime?

Users on Platform X (formerly Twitter) warned about the official account of the "Syrian Ministry of Information," marked with a gray badge for government institutions. They claimed the account is still managed by individuals from Bashar al-Assad's former government. This assertion arose after the account published an invitation for Syrian journalists who defected from the regime’s media outlets to fill out an online form to return to work. These warnings were based on the absence of any formal announcement from the current transitional government about reclaiming official social media accounts.

The warning was included in Platform X’s "Community Notes" program, displaying it to all users. The platform stated that enough contributors with diverse perspectives agreed the note was "helpful," citing its clarity and use of credible sources.

Verify-sy contacted an official from the Public Relations Office of the Syrian Salvation Government, the leading entity of the current transitional authority in Syria. The official confirmed that the Ministry of Information’s account is fully managed by the new authority.

The official added that most official accounts previously run by members of Bashar al-Assad's government are now under the control of the new transitional authority.

Additionally, the official Ministry of Information channel in the Syrian Salvation Government had previously shared an announcement published on December 13. The announcement stated that all "war media personnel" who supported Assad's regime and promoted its crimes against the Syrian people would face fair trials under transitional justice. This process aims to ensure accountability and justice for those involved in severe violations.
