Users on social media recently circulated a statement attributed to US Secretary of State (Mike Pompeo) in which he said that the US is in the process of determining the appropriate location in north-eastern Syria for the establishment of a permanent American embassy to support political allies in the region, but the statement is fabricated.

On Monday, January 18th, public pages and personal accounts aligned with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) published on social media a statement attributed to US Secretary of State (Mike Pompeo) stating his country's intention to establish a permanent US embassy in northeastern Syria.
Promoters of the alleged statement by the US Secretary claimed that (Mike Pompeo) said in an interview with (Fox News) that the United States of America is in the process of determining the appropriate location in northeastern Syria to build the embassy to support its political allies in the region.
The claim above was widely spread on public pages and personal accounts supporting the Syrian Democratic Forces, which control most areas of northeastern Syria and are supported by the United States of America. A sample of the claim sources can be found at the end of this article.
Verify-Sy team searched the website of the American Fox News Channel to verify the statement attributed to US Secretary of State (Mike Pompeo) about his country's intention to open a permanent embassy in northeastern Syria, and we didn't find any results to indicate that.
Other search results that we conducted using Google's advanced search technology using specific keywords in English, such as (Mike Pompeo, US Embassy, Northeast Syria, Fox News), did not show any results supporting the claim.
