Last Saturday, Verify-Sy platform completed two training workshops under the title "Risk of misleading information, monitoring skills and verification tools. Forty young women and men in north-eastern Syria, in the governorates of Hasakah, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. The participants in these workshops working in various fields, including journalism and civil society organizations.
The first workshop was held on January 20, and the second workshop was on January 28, each workshop lasted for three days, during which the participants were acquainted with open-source verification tools, monitoring and follow-up skills, and were supervised by journalists specializing in fact-checking and digital verification.
Despite doing these workshops remotely, the participants tested their ability to apply theoretical information, specifically monitoring and follow-up skills, along with training in the use of open-source tools in image and video analysis, geo/graphic location analysis and identification, and reverse search techniques, among other skills they learned.
This comes within the framework of the Verify-Sy campaign to spread the initiative of curbing the spread of misinformation, developing the capabilities and practical skills to fact-check, and supporting this initiative inside Syria, given the disastrous implications and the danger of the spread of disinformation on communities in conflict areas.
Verify-Sy platform opened the door wide for the participants in the two workshops to follow up and apply the information gained through moral and material support to publish their reports and investigations with their names in Verify-Sy website.
It is noteworthy that Verify-Sy platform conducted two similar workshops in the cities of Azaz and Al-Bab in Aleppo countryside last September, as well as launched a three-month fellowship program with the participation of 12 colleagues, who achieved a qualitative addition and a real support for the field of verification, fact-checking and investigation.
