Verify-Sy becomes an accredited signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) after a long journey took three years while the platform worked on developing its methodology, working mechanisms, and its organizational and administrative structure to comply with the strict principles set by the network as the main condition for accepting applications to join the institutions which work in fact-checking field.
Verify-Sy platform celebrates this achievement after it officially became a member of the network affiliated with the (Poynter) Institute for Media Studies, as it is the first Syrian institution and the third from the Middle East and North Africa region to obtain the accreditation of the global network to become one of the 115 institutions accredited by the network working in The same field around the world.
It is one of the units of the Poynter Institute that takes on the responsibility of assembling fact-checking bodies worldwide and plays a pivotal role in assembling fact-checking bodies and defending their rights. The network is accredited by most social media sites in the fact-checking process, where Facebook partners with independent third-party fact-checkers certified by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) to identify, review and assess potential misinformation on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Verify-sy platform was established in March 2016 in Syria at a time when the truth was being slaughtered with a knife or thrown with barrel bombs. The platform has undertaken to develop its tools, methodology, and capabilities in order to establish the feet of verification journalism, primarily locally, despite the trenches dug and the various accusations this type of work brings.
Today, Verify-Sy is considered a reliable source for many media institutions and regional and international human rights organizations. It is a trusted partner with Facebook (Meta). Verify-sy seeks to reduce media disinformation and its harmful effects on the individual and society and create critical awareness and positive suspicion within the framework of generalizing A culture of commitment to broadcast the facts as a human need.
